"Rewritten" collection 2026

A semi-abstract series in acrylic and mixed media.

Bold abstract pieces on paper, canvas and wooden panels form this series of work including some abstract landscape pieces.  This collection uses words and phrases used to lower self esteem, create a feeling of inadequacy and discourage independence and reframes them into bold, positive, uplifting paintings of a new beginning.  Colour and pattern merge to create layers of detail and many pieces include words and phrases, now illegible, embedding a feeling of anything being possible.

" I wanted to use these words and phrases over and over again until they became completely meaningless.  They are now shapes and lines within a positive, joyful piece of art and loose the power that they once held.  As time moves on so does the emotional state and towards the end of the collection a sense of a new, more fun energy led on to a different feeling of totally abstract panels inspired by a collection of 100 collages that I created as part of the online "100 day project".

I used spray paint and pattern, splashes and bold brush strokes and applied the paint energetically and intuitively at first,  before leaving each piece to sit, then going back and reworking.  Each piece had many layers of paint applied before I felt that it conveyed the message and intention that I set out to and it was deemed finished.

I hope that the viewer finds them uplifting, somewhat meditative and filled with positive energy that relaxes yet inspires to bring a sense of optimistic joy."     Cath Crowther.
